Haven’t done one of these in a while, to be honest though, I haven’t done much blogging in a while either. Grrr.

Spicy Chickpeas – the sort of food I make when a) don’t have any other food b) can’t be bothered to make anything else c) I can figure out what else to make to eat with rice. Mostly I make it because of reason a) but I really ought to make it more often because it is damn tasty and isn’t difficult to make at all. Plus, I have no issue just eating a bowl of these to myself on their own :D I guess these aren’t really super duper healthy, there is quite an amount of oil, but damnit sometimes there’s moments in life where you need the fat. However those moments don’t include deep frying everything that is available to you.

Spicy Chickpeas

*I’m one of those annoying people that never measures anything, so I usually judge by shakes and pours, and adding more of something that I love etc.

  • 1 cup cooked chickpeas, or 1 can of chickpeas (if using canned make sure to rinse them thoroughly, don’t want that canned taste :( )
  • ground sage
  • dried thyme
  • ground cumin
  • smoked paprika
  • garlic powder
  • couple grinds of black pepper
  • salt to taste
  • oil – I don’t know how much oil I’ve used but it was definitely more than I intended to use (poured too much out :( ) but I guess you want enough oil to make sure everything is runny enough to coat the chickpeas
  1. Dump all spices into an oven dish along with the oil. Mix it all around. If it’s too dry or seems clumpy, add some more oil.
  2. Mix the chickpeas in the spicy goodness and make sure it’s all evenly coated. Spread out the chickpeas in the oven dish evenly.
  3. Put in the oven, under the grill (broil) setting – and cook until the chickpeas have as much or as little crunch to them. Alternately you could make this in a frying pan. Whatever is easiest :)
  4. Eat it. Hurry and eat it.

At  least this time the food photos don’t look so bad xD

What I like about it

  • cheap
  • minimal effort for maximum taste = best equation ever
  • heaps of fibre
  • can add whatever herbs/spices to keep it interesting/not boring
